Oslo Accords: 13 September 1993- 13 September 2023- Thirty Years On

This article is based on a revised invited plenary speech I delivered at an international conference at the University of Haifa, Israel, 28-31 January 1997. The Conference was to honour the Oslo Accords and to commemorate the life and work of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was so tragically assassinated on 4 November 1995.
I remember the Conference and my time at Haifa very fondly, especially when I was invited to meet with Mrs. Leah Rabin and Prime Minister Shimon Peres. These moments I will remember affectionately.
I was then invited to visit Israel and Palestine again a few more times, where I was fortunate to meet with the youth, peace activists, politicians, religious, cultural and spiritual leaders, students, university academicians and more. I will never forget those meetings, conversations and dialogue, all full of joy, hope and positivity, that living side-by-side, in peace and harmony, as good neighbours, is indeed a real possibility now.
I recall very fondly my visits to the universities of Haifa, Hebron and Bethlehem , Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), Ministry of Industry, Trade and Economy (Jericho)- amongst others, sharing moments of hope, dreaming the dream, that soon there will be peace, justice and prosperity for all in the Middle East.

The wisdom of learning to Do Nothing lies in the fact that it promotes a sense of relationality and belonging, meaning and purpose
‘Doing nothing is better than being busy doing nothing.’ – Lao Tzu
‘Do nothing and leave nothing undone,’ says Lao Tzu.
Before I explain more, I am sure you probably are thinking that this Doing Nothing sounds a bit wishy-washy, coming from an out of touch and unrealistic mind. But please stick with me here. Doing nothing doesn’t mean being lazy, idle or wanting to avoid work. The meaning is deeper than that. What it means is effortless action/sincere and meaningful/purposeful action. Thus, stay put and more will be revealed…

Lest We Forget
First they destroyed democracy in Iran in 1953, when they staged a CIA/MI6 coup against the elected and legitimate government of Dr. Mohammad Mosaddegh.
UK should finally acknowledge role in 1953 Iran coup
As if one tragedy, one death of democracy was not enough, they did the same in Chile on 11 September 1973.
Washington should come clean about its role in the 1973
“The coup in Chile was really the repression of a lot of hopes and dreams around the world, and I think that dynamic still resonates and is still relevant today.”- Julian Borger, The Observer, 3 September 2023
"Once Allende comes to power we shall do all within our power to condemn Chile and the Chileans to utmost deprivation and poverty."- Edward Korry, the US ambassador in Santiago, reporting to Henry Kissinger, the foreign strategist of President Richard Nixon
"One in 10 chance perhaps, but save Chile! /worth spending /not concerned risks involved /no involvement of embassy /$10,000,000 available, more if necessary/ best men we have/ game plan/ make the economy scream /48 hours for plan of action."- Richard Helms, director of the CIA
