There is a world beyond the pandemic and the lockdown. It's time to come up with a hopeful and positive vision

Once the World Was Perfect

Joy Harjo - 1951-

Once the world was perfect, and we were happy in that world.

Then we took it for granted.

Discontent began a small rumble in the earthly mind.

Then Doubt pushed through with its spiked head.

And once Doubt ruptured the web,

All manner of demon thoughts

Jumped through—

We destroyed the world we had been given

For inspiration, for life—

Each stone of jealousy, each stone

Of fear, greed, envy, and hatred, put out the light.

No one was without a stone in his or her hand.

There we were,

Right back where we had started.

We were bumping into each other

In the dark.

And now we had no place to live, since we didn’t know

How to live with each other.

Then one of the stumbling ones took pity on another

And shared a blanket.

A spark of kindness made a light.

The light made an opening in the darkness.

Everyone worked together to make a ladder.

A Wind Clan person climbed out first into the next world,

And then the other clans, the children of those clans, their children,

And their children, all the way through time—

To now, into this morning light to you.

......

And Now Hopefully We Can Make the World Perfect Again with the Power of our Love, Compassion, and Humanity

Makes This World A Better Place For All of US

A Time to Weave a New and Hopeful Tapestry of Life

Wherever you look, wherever you go, there is no doubt that, the pandemic, COVID-19, has profoundly affected all our lives. It has changed the world as we knew it. It has presented us all with many challenges.

However, the question on everybody’s lips is : Can We Rise to These Challenges? Can We Build A Better World, More Caring and Just in Post-COVID?

The answers to my mind are very simple: It all depends on us and on our collective actions. Can We Be Guided by Our Humanity? Can We Project Love and Kindness in all We Do?

And more importantly, no time is better than the Christmas Season to put this Challenge to the test.

I Hope We Can All Play our Part in This Changed World

Businesses place Value on Values

John Lewis Christmas ad focuses on Love and kindness theme

…’It’s campaigns – from the Hare and the Bear in 2013 to Monty the Penguin in 2014 and last year’s Excitable Edgar the dinosaur – have specialised in heart-warming tales of cute characters to part shoppers from their cash in the department store. And they have been viewed millions of times online.

But 2020 has been a different year. So different, according to the retailer, that they even toyed with abandoning a Christmas campaign altogether.

Instead it has come up with a pandemic theme of kindness and giving to charity, rather than giving presents, but still with appealing animals, children and snowmen…’ Continue to read

‘WE BELIEVE THAT THE WORLD

WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE

IF WE ALL GAVE A LITTLE MORE.

A LITTLE MORE THOUGHT. A LITTLE

MORE TIME. A LITTLE MORE...

WELL... LOVE.

WE’RE NOT ASKING FOR MUCH.

BUT WE’RE ASKING IT OF EVERYONE.

BECAUSE IF WE ALL GIVE JUST

A LITTLE MORE LOVE, TOGETHER

WE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.’- John Lewis's & Partners, Christmas 2020

It will need to go beyond a singular focus on profit, and strive towards impacting positively on society.’
