The economy needn’t be a war; it can be for the common good. To get there, we must retrieve our innate good will and rediscover what it means to be human.
Economics and the global economy should serve rather than dominate people – and that includes factoring in and optimising for all aspects of human wellbeing too.

Dear fellow brothers and sisters, all the sons and daughters of our common mother, our mother nature,
We owe it to our humanity and honesty to reflect upon the following questions, amongst others, as we debate and reflect on the state of our world today, and moreover, on how we may be able to propose solutions for change, so that we may reverse the despair and destruction to hope and construction, moving from darkness to light, where all the entire web of life can live in peace and harmony together for the common good.
The pertinent questions are:
- What does it mean to be human? Who am I, where have I come from, where am I going to, what is the purpose of this journey we call life?
- What does it mean to live a life of meaning and purpose?
- What does it mean to understand and appreciate the natural world?
- What does it mean to forge a more just society for the common good?
By their very nature, these questions involve thought and discussion around spirituality, ethics, morals and values, in contrast to today’s dominant neoliberal model which is all about money and more money and the exploitation of our mother nature and sacred earth for personal gains.
This means that our lives are connected not only to knowledge, power, money, and technology, but also to our humanity, love and wisdom.; kindness and empathy. Unless the questions we ask encompass the full spectrum of these emotions and experiences, we are unlikely to find the answers we are looking for, or to understand them in any depth, let alone solving problems and attaining goals. We must rise to this challenge. Our calling is to save our mother. Carpe Diem!
Time for Reflection- Time for Truth and Honesty
Searching for Our Souls
Our world, our so-called AI-driven world, our modern society, have all gone astray and out of equilibrium, in total state of flux. Everything has gone pear- shaped, with no soul, no heart, no direction. While every one is pursuing one thing or another, we are searching for our own soul. It is only when we find our soul that we will discover the meaning of our lives, who we are and why we are. Then, we will discover our true nature and our best values.
What the World on Fire tells us about the US, the leaders they elect and the ‘Drill Baby Drill’?
Can the world and our lives and livelihoods be saved? Can Mother Nature be protected, nourished and saved? Can the world become a better place? Can we live in peace and harmony with each other and with Mother Nature?
To my mind, yes, but not as long as we shy away from the truth of what the US has become and how their policies are destroying themselves and the world together. Time is now to be honest and tell the truth as it is.
Drill Baby Drill is the natural outcome of sadness, depression, anxiety that has- by and large- engulfed the US, leading to meanness, lack of empathy and kindness, selfishness and a drastic rise in a narcissistic behaviour, resulting in the dereliction of responsibility, duty of care, and moral compass, the most vital ingredients for a better world and a thriving mother nature, lest we forget.
This is how the writer David Brooks explains it: ’ The most important story about why Americans have become sad and alienated and rude, I believe, is also the simplest: We inhabit a society in which people are no longer trained in how to treat others with kindness and consideration. Our society has become one in which people feel licensed to give their selfishness free rein. The story I’m going to tell is about morals. In a healthy society, a web of institutions—families, schools, religious groups, community organizations, and workplaces—helps form people into kind and responsible citizens, the sort of people who show up for one another. We live in a society that’s terrible at moral formation.’
(At this point I wish to note that I’d be remiss here if I didn’t mention that I am not making a sweeping generalisation about the entire US population. Like anywhere else in the world, the US, too, has its own share of good, bad and ugly. However, as many observers and researchers have candidly noted, it is safe to assume that a very large percentage are leaning towards meanness and ugly.)

What is to be done? This must be the most pertinent question ever asked
Given all that has been noted above, I suggest perhaps it would be far more beneficial and rewarding, if instead of having all these conferences on environment and how to save the world, we could have a global forum on how to save the US from itself; and how to help her to discover what it means to be human.
In this respect, we should, first and foremost, acknowledge the role and existence of an education system in the US that for all practical purposes is mostly devoid of moral and spiritual compass, resulting in a huge decline in values such as to be kind, considered, empathetic, and being happy and hopeful.
We should never forget that, as many sages and philosophers, such as Plato have reminded us again and again: ‘Knowledge becomes evil if the aim be not virtuous.’
I suggest the first forum to be on how this education model, whose aim is not virtuous, has closed the minds of the citizens; drawing from critiques like Allan Bloom's Closing of the American Mind, which explores how a lack of shared moral or philosophical frameworks can lead to rigid ideological thinking rather than open, critical inquiry.
If this first step is taken, if this global and dialogical conversation takes place, then, I am positive that we can begin the journey to change the world for the better. Carpe diem!
