Economics of fascism is destroying our humanity, our lives and our economies: The time is now to discover the wise words of wisdom and reconnect with people’s economists
The brutal neoliberal economic fascism is at last bringing the house of cards down, one by one
Europe engulfed in the fires of discontent
Europe is angry, frustrated and in despair.During the latter half of 2026, mass protest movements arose in Western and Southern Europe. Demonstrations occurred in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Albania, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Serbia; demanding change, accountability, humanity and the dismantling of the tools of the economy of fascism.

We are now all 'cockroaches' fighting for our rights and human dignity
A youth movement born in India from exam leaks, corruption, injustice and poverty has now become the symbol of resistance and struggles for dignity and justice across Europe, reshaping global politics and economics

Time is Now for Accountability and Atonement- Europe’s House of Cards is Falling in Disgrace
Across Europe, around the world, political leaders have lost the trust and respect of their people, as neoliberalism has led to the retreat of virtue in public life. This, lest we forget, has become a plague of our times.
The time has come to hold our leaders - in the public and private sector alike - to account for their actions, before we all succumb to chaos and disorder.
N.B. I always want to be ‘The Hope Economist’. With this in mind, I wish to quote the precious words of the legendary Toni Morrison, the late American novelist and editor, and the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993: “I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge – even wisdom.”
Time is now to be inspired by economists of hope, wisdom, those who know what it means to be human.
Economics and the Good Life
This is our moment: Saving civilisation from the ‘monster dogma’
Time is now for John Maynard Keynes, E. F. Scumacher, and Isabella Weber
Paraphrasing the timeless words of Maya Angelou, we need hope, optimism, and not only to survive, but to thrive with kindness, love, empathy, humour, commitment, and passion. This is the essence of Keynes, his legacy for today: "economic growth and wealth accumulation are not ends in themselves, but merely the means to secure "the good life". Yes, we can and we must, envision overcoming deep systemic challenges like neoliberal economic pressures, war, and destruction, If we listen to the Voice of Hope, echoing across the world.

Small is Beautiful: The Wisdom of E.F. Schumacher
"Perhaps we cannot raise the winds. But each of us can put up the sail, so that when the wind comes we can catch it."

'Schumacher’s wisdom could not be more relevant at the time when the Doomsday Clock edges forward and we fear we are moving closer than ever towards nuclear Armageddon, irreversible global warming, financial meltdown and crises of amorality and spiritual breakdown, amongst others.
'Schumacher always attempted to apply wisdom to numerous aspects of twentieth-century life, not only to economics and the environment, but to science, technology, culture, education, religion, and the relations of rich nations to poor nations. We shall return later to his ideas, but first a little bit of biographical and background is necessary.'

‘People’s dignity, and democracy, is at stake’: meet the economist ditching ideology for reality
‘Isabella Weber prescribes a common-sense solution to poverty, inequality and fascism – making life’s essentials affordable for all.’

‘Isabella Weber bridges the heterodox, human-centric economic traditions of John Maynard Keynes and E.F. Schumacher to construct her framework of "Anti-Fascist Economics." In her work, she synthesizes Keynesian macroprudential interventions with Schumacher's focus on human dignity and scale, arguing that treating economics as an adaptable, problem-solving tool rather than a rigid ideology is essential to saving modern democracy.’
‘In progressive circles, Weber, 38, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after economists of her generation. An associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an associate at Harvard’s Fairbank Center, she advises policymakers in the US, Europe and Latin America. She popularised the term “greedflation” to describe profiteering during recent cost of living crises. Her new book, Anti-Fascist Economics, is the culmination of years of research into inequality and inflation, and a lifelong commitment to fighting fascism. As she writes: “If we understand economics as the study of the material foundations of society, then economics is key to averting the catastrophes in front of us.”*
‘What would it mean to create an economics that guarantees dignity for all?
'For decades, we were told that free markets would safeguard democracy. Instead, we are now living in an age of emergencies as the cost of living rises, democratic institutions weaken and the far right gains ground across the world. But it doesn't have to be this way. Drawing on history, political economy and her own experience at the centre of recent inflation debates, economist Isabella Weber argues that the rise of today's authoritarian movements is not an accident. It is rooted in an economic order that has treated livelihoods as expendable while elevating markets above democratic choice.
‘This book offers a bold alternative. Recovering the forgotten post-war ambition of an economics committed to ‘never again’, Weber argues that governments should secure affordable essentials, guarantee dignified work and build resilient economies capable of confronting climate change, technological disruption and geopolitical conflict. In place of market fundamentalism, she sets out a practical programme for an economy organised around human dignity rather than profit fundamentalism.
‘Both a clear-eyed diagnosis of our age and an inspiring blueprint for renewal, Anti-Fascist Economics shows that the future of democracy depends on choosing an economy that serves all of us.’
